The Opportunity This position primarily provides communications management and support to UT System Human Resources and Finance/Administration. The work will be integrated into all facets of system-level HR/Finance communications and marketing, including visual, written, multimedia, traditional, and social media communications as appropriate and applicable.

The position reports and provides key strategic support to the Executive Director of Communications in the UT System Division of Communications and Marketing (DOCM). The Assistant Director of Communications will work with the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the HR and Finance executive leadership team members, and departments within the Division of Finance and Administration, including attending the weekly CFO staff meetings. The Assistant Director will help facilitate media outreach and response to queries, as well as assist in the distribution of information to the press, both locally and nationally, ensuring all media outreach efforts and messaging are strategic, cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the UT System’s mission, vision and values.

The Assistant Director of Communications will be a collaborative team member who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, creatively, thoroughly, and confidentially. They will have entrepreneurial instincts and a desire to “get the job done.” The Assistant Director of Communications will be flexible in their approach to the work and shifting demands of the position. Primary responsibilities will include: 40% Research, create, and execute messages to internal audiences Assess and respond to communication needs, including identifying, recommending, and developing communications approaches to meeting goals and objectives using sound professional judgment and decision-making Plan, develop, and execute multi-faceted communications strategies in alignment with UT System goals, objectives, and strategy Development of publications that include a bi-weekly HR Connect e-newsletter and For Your Benefit newsletter (published twice a year) and various F&A-focused publications 40% Assists in developing content for UT System websites Development of presentations and reports for high-level UT System presentations Communications and marketing support for HR-led special events and initiatives in accordance with UT System branding guidelines Assist in crisis communication response by drafting and providing strategy input for approval and distribution Lead efforts in media pitches and inquiries 20% Plan, develop, and execute multi-faceted communications strategies for new programs, policies, and changes Develop innovative strategies to engage employees through creative communications Provide general oversight of social media outside of job postings and recruitment – related communications, including LinkedIn postings.
