HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
The primary function of a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate is facilitating outreach with individuals currently in a program or considering treatment. Utilizing their recovery expertise, professional training, and lived experience, peers boost individuals’ engagement in treatment and commitment to recovery. CPRAs also connect patients to community-based recovery supports consistent with treatment, recovery, and discharge plans. A certified Peer Recovery Advocate’s duties may include:
Essential duties include but are not limited to:

Non-clinical crisis support, especially after periods of hospitalization or incarceration

Educating program participants about various modes of recovery

Accompanying clients to medical appointments

Raising awareness of existing social and other support services

Linking participants to formal recovery supports
-
Assisting with applying for benefits
Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate is required. (must maintain valid certification)

A minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of substance abuse and mental health is required.

Applicants must be able to serve as role model of personal recovery and have a desire to support individuals in recovery.

A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to respond sensitively to the needs of our clients and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or adhere to enhanced protocols if Company determines your job position requires accessing a HANAC worksite.
Work Schedule: 4 hours; one day per week (schedule based on program needs)
Rate of Pay: $20 per hour
