Job Type: Full-time Job Description: The Director of Communications and Marketing serves as the senior communications and marketing professional for the Student Experience Division at Syracuse University.

The Director provides oversight for the Division’s communications, media relations, websites, social media channels, public relations, and marketing, in collaboration with staff from the University’s central communications and marketing staff. The Director guides a team of communication and design professionals and student interns/staff in developing and executing strategic campus and student campaigns, student-focused communication plans, and producing multichannel content. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field.

Masters degree preferred. Job Specific Qualifications: Six (6) or more years experience in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field. Experience in higher education setting with experience in social media and web publishing tools preferred.

Responsibilities: Lead and provide direct oversight for the Communications and Marketing unit, including the direct supervision of four (4) professional staff members and indirect supervision of a graduate assistant and student interns/staff. Create, align, and implement Divisional communications, engagement, and marketing strategy in support of the Division and the Universitys strategic priorities. Oversee and drive comprehensive communication and engagement strategies focused on the student experience to help inform and raise awareness of compelling stories about the student experience, resources, services, and high-priority initiatives among key stakeholders, including more than 22,000 students.

Manage the executive communication needs of the Divisions senior leadership, including engagements with the Office of the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on campus issues, student engagement strategies, and Divisional priorities. Support employee engagement efforts for one of the largest divisions at the University, comprising of more than 400 employees.

In close coordination and collaboration with the Universitys central communications and marketing staff, serve as a key partner in the Universitys issues management, media relations, and crisis management efforts, requiring 24/7 on-call availability. Support institutional marketing and branding efforts and help to implement those efforts, advising on student-related communications strategies and Student Experience-related messaging. Collaborate with University departments and partners to direct and consult on communications.
